Hey Tom, Seems like your an old friend now, since I have been religiously reading your site for the past 3 years. I have some great info on the iTunes CD burn issue that might help some fellow 6400 owners. As you are well aware iTunes 1.1 added in drivers for some 3rd party CD-RW's to burn with iTunes. But the problem for most of us with 6400's is that the drivers were for external FW and USB burners and not IDE. I am sure that many of your readers (including myself) have used the top bay of their towers as shown in your web site to add another CD player such as a CD-R and CD-RW connected to the IDE. Well I got mine to work by following these directions I found on Macintouch and then a little Yankee ingenuity: -------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 16:27:44 -0800 From: Eugene Kim Subject: CDRW with a 3rd party drives This is how to obtain the CD burn capability of the new Power Mac G4 that Apple has announced yesterday. If you have any of the following 3rd Party drive this should work. This should work not only with internal drives but external as well from what I have read on the web. * Mitsumi CR-4804TE * Plextor CD-R PX-W1210A * Plextor CD-R PX-W124TS * Plextor CD-R PX-W8220T * Plextor CD-R PX-W8432T * Sony CD-RW CRX140S * Sony CD-RW CRX145E * Sony CD-RW CRX160E * TEAC 4x4x32 * Yamaha CRW4416S * Yamaha CRW6416S * Yamaha CRW8424S * Yamaha CRW8824E Necessary Files --------------- * Disc Burn * Radiologic CD Master Preview Necessary Apps -------------- * A file/creator changer application * Tome Viewer INSTRUCTIONS -- PLEASE READ NOTES AT BOTTOM ------------------------------------------- 1) Mount the "Disc Burn" on your desktop and proceed to extract the files onto your harddrive 2) Extract the following files from the tome located at and place as noted: - Disc Burner->Installer Files->Disc Burner->Installation Files HD->System: * Finder HD->Applications (Mac OS 9)-> Utilities; * Disc Burner HD->System Folder->Extensions: * Apple CD/DVD Driver * ATA * Authoring Support * CarbonLib * Disc Burner Extension HD->System Folder->Extensions-≫Authoring Support Files: * CD * CD-R * CDB * MatshitaCDR * SonyCDR 3) Using "CD Master Installer" install only the "CD Master Application" from the custom install menu 4) Remove the "PlextorCDR" from the plugins folder in the "CD Master Folder" that was installed in the ROOT directory of your hard drive 5) Take the "PlextorCDR" and change creatory/type strings with your favorite application for this to: Creator: burn Type: plug 6) Now place your newly recognized "PlextorCDR" into the "Authoring Support Files" folder 7) Restart and everything should work as demonstrated by Jobs himself. ----------------------------------- So to continue with my story Tom............... I followed Eugene Kim's advice and downloaded Disc Burner 1.0 and then got Tome Viewer from Versiontracker because it won't install itself, expanded each files separately and dragged them to the appropriate place. I then learned the Radiologic had sold the interest in CD Master (only find Chaos Master at their Website.) No CD Master anywhere! So then I went to Deja News and found several people in the same dilemma. I contacted this guy named Lionel in France who seemed to have solved the problem and had gone to the effort to change several of the drivers for IDE and CD-R as well (seems iTunes is quite finicky about a Driver for a CD-R Vs a CD-RW) and ask if he could send me one for a Plextor CD-R PX-R820T............ it's an 8/20 CD-R. He sends it to me today, I download the extension from an HTML and............Viola!.................. it's burn baby burn! I'll give you the HTML he sent me for the download of a PlextorCDR and YamahaCDR with IDE hookup. http://kcassam.free.fr/goodies/CDR.sit
